Feeding

What is Feeding?

Feeding is considered to be the 3rd most important task for any individual after

1. Breathing

2. Postural stability.

What is Eating?

Eating is also the only activity that includes the 7 areas of functioning at one time. Occupational therapists not only assist in helping broaden the range and experiences with new foods, but they also help by tailoring the task to make it more accessible, more enjoyable, and less stressful for the individuals involved.

If you have any concerns with:

  • Picky eating or problem feeding

  • Sensory difficulties with food include texture, smell, taste, sight, and sound.

  • Maintaining attention

  • Physical limiting skills include a weak chew, difficulty holding/ using utensils, and sitting up at the table.

OT Matt is one of the few SOS-trained feeding therapists on the Sunshine Coast. The sequential-oral-sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding is evidence-based and effective in focusing on feeding difficulties as well as expanding the number of foods a “picky eater” consumes.
